The Work

“It is the power of the image to engage, excite, inspire and transfix that fascinates me. The image chooses the media for me. As an artist, I try to create an opportunity for the viewer but also try to get out of their way to allow for a personal experience with the image.”

Marianne Howard studies the power of visuals images, in all forms, conceptual and literal, intentional and organic, to communicate and transcend cultural barriers. Her inspiration may come from the stitching of Peruvian prayer cloths or a footprint left behind in mud, ancient cave markings or contemporary street graffiti, the beauty of the natural world or the effects of man’s intrusion upon it. Often the faces of the amazing people she meets around the globe find interpretation through her drawing, painting and especially her fine art photography. For Marianne, laying color on canvas or framing an image in the viewfinder, is dually an act of creation and meditation as she seeks to communicate the essence of her subjects through her works.
